Southeastern Illinois College Board of Trustees Vice President and Illinois Community College Trustees Association (ICCTA) Representative Dr. Frank Barbre was recently awarded the prestigious Linden A. Warfel Trustee Education Award for completing more than 100 ICCTA professional development programs.
Presented by the ICCTA, the award recognizes trustees who demonstrate exceptional commitment to ongoing education and leadership in community college governance. It is named in honor of former ICCTA president Linden A. Warfel, a long-serving advocate for Illinois community colleges.
“Trustees who go above and beyond to pursue continuous learning strengthen not only their institutions but the entire community college system in Illinois,” said SIC President Dr. Karen Weiss. “Dr. Barbre’s dedication to service and professional growth is commendable and reflects the high standards of leadership we value at Southeastern.”
Barbre has served on the SIC Board of Trustees since 2005. He has been a strong advocate for community college access and innovation in Southern Illinois and played a key role in bringing the new SIC Stanford D. Williams Career and Training Center to fruition in Carmi. The center benefits White County high school students through dual credit opportunities, as well as traditional and nontraditional students interested in the trades, local industries in need of skilled workers, and the community as a whole.
The ICCTA provides advocacy, training, and support for trustees across Illinois’ public community colleges. Fewer than 10 percent of trustees statewide earn the Warfel Award, making Barbre’s accomplishment a significant milestone.
“I’m honored to receive this award and proud to represent Southeastern Illinois College through the ICCTA,” said Barbre. “Lifelong learning is at the heart of what we do as community colleges, and that includes those of us who serve in leadership roles.”
Southeastern Illinois College extends its congratulations to Dr. Barbre for this well-earned recognition and thanks him for two decades of dedicated service to the college and its mission.
