While national and local publicity has alerted many area residents to the dangers of prescription drugs, there are still many people who don’t comprehend the misuse of prescription drugs can be deadly.

With that in mind, a special program has been planned for Tuesday, Jan. 22 at John A Logan College in Carterville in an effort to help residents of the southern 33 counties better understand the dangers associated with prescription drugs, such as opiods and what leads to other drug use such as heroin, a street alternative to opiods.

The special program will open at 8:30 with registration.

Ginger Meyer and Matt Buckman will be the keynote speakers beginning at 9:45. They will discuss the Roles of ACES and trauma in Substance Misuse.

Following a short break at 11:15, the seminar will hear form Aaron Diehr who will talk about grant writing.

State and regional updates will be presented during the lunch break from 12:15 to 1:15.

Speed networking and lightening talks will run from 1:15 to about 2:30 with an official wrap up and adjournment set for 2:30 to 2:45.

All the sessions will be held in rooms F118 and F119 at the college located at 700 Logan College Drive, just south of the Carterville intersection.

Those planning to attend the program should register by Thursday, (jan. 17) at [email protected]
