CWC Unit 5 Looking to Fill Hammell’s Seat Following Resignation

An open seat on the Carmi-White County Unit 5 School Board is expected to be filled at the May 19th meeting.  Brent Hammel, who was re-elected to a term on the board in 2023 has submitted his resignation leaving an open seat.  Hammell has been on the board since 2013 and says,

“I have full confidence in the current board, administration and staff of CWC. I have been on the board ~ 12 years and it is time to focus on other things.”

We followed up with several questions for Hammell, but he hasn’t had a comment.

Letters of interest to fill Hammell’s seat at the table are being accepted through Monday, May 5th.  Interested candidates must be a US Citizen, at least 18 years of age, a resident of Illinois and the District for at least a year immediately preceding the appointment, a registered voter, not hold another incompatible public office, not hold certain types of prohibited State or federal employment, and meet all qualifications based upon the distribution of population among congressional townships in the district.

If you’re interested in joining the board, your letter of interest should be sent to the attention of Nathan Whetstone, Carmi-White County CUSD #5 Board President at 211 West Robinson Street in Carmi, Illinois 62821.
