Crossville Continues to Consider TNR, Discusses Trash Contract, FOIA Officer, and More

Village President Rick Kuykendall says he wants more order in Crossville Trustee meetings.  Just beyond the routine opening of the Tuesday evening gathering and before committee reports or agenda items, Kuykendall offered this.

It’s been brough to my attention.  We’ve always kind of kept meetings kind of casual…small town meetings, stuff like that.  But really, what we should do more so moving forward is if somebody has a question about something, open session would be the time to bring that up.  I’ll recognize you, not a problem.  What that does is it kind of cuts down on a lot of discussion.  So, moving forward we’ll try to and it’s one of those things.  It’s a small town, somebody’s got an opinion and they give it and I don’t have a problem with that.  (chuckles) That’s kind of what this country was…but there’s a time and a place for all that.

In old business, Trustee Heather Guinn shared updated ordinance wording on her suggestion of implementing a TNR (Trap-Neuter-Return) program within the village.  There’s still no movement, but discussion is expected to continue and Kuykendall suggested getting Guinn and dog catcher Amanda Mercer together to further look into implementation.

Mayor Kuykendall says the village’s trash contract will be expiring at the end of April.  Currently, residents pay $14.34 per month for that service.  A presentation from Bulldog Systems, the current provider is expected at an upcoming meeting.  The village will then have the opportunity to shop or accept the new proposal.

Leaders agreed to make a $1,000 donation to Crossville’s Winterfest organization.

Beyond that, trustees also discussed appointing one or two FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) officers.  Clerk Selena Harrell has been fielding those requests which she says have increased significantly over the last several months.  No action was taken.

Finally, trustees approved a special use permit allowing Brenda and Jeff Davis to move in a trailer at an address on 5th Street.

The meeting adjourned at 7:10pm, 40 minutes after it got underway.
