City of McLeansboro Board Hosts a Short Meeting to Start 2026

The McLeansboro City Council met Tuesday night for its regular monthly meeting, which ran for about 40 minutes.  Scott Mareing was there and has this report…

Snedeker Risk Management , which provides the city with its Hope Trust Healthcare Plan, presented Mayor Chad May with a check for $1, 920, which represents the first healthcare dividends for McLeansboro since 2016.  The amount was based on the number of employees and the number of years participating.

The Consent Agenda was approved, which includes setting up electronic payments for Accounts Payable Vendors as an option.  It will save printing costs, paper and expenses.  The Monthly Zoning Report includes the city bidding on the trailer on Powell Street.  The Fiscal Year 2026 Appropriations Amendment is simply the moving around of money between the various departments.  Also included is  renewing the Intergovernmental Agreement between Hamilton County Unit #10 School District and the City of McLeansboro regarding a school resource officer.  The only change is the reduction of the grant funding from 50% this year to 25% next year.

The board approved going again with Republic Services for the garbage contract for the city.

They also approved Zeller Construction of Marion to build the addition to the McLeansboro Fire Station.

Concerning raising the amount of Class E-2 liquor licenses in the city from one to two as requested by Hucks, the issue died due to the lack of a motion.

The board approved banning the sale and delivery of kratom and derivatives within McLeansboro.  Kratom is a plant native to Southeast Asia, where the leaves contain compounds that can cause addiction and death, and has been linked to numerous adverse health effects.

Finally, they approved A Request for Proposal, or a RFP, to audit the city’s financials.  An RFP is a formal document to solicit detailed business proposals for complex projects or services.

The meeting adjourned at 6:11 PM.
