Carmi Police made a handful of arrests over the weekend beginning Friday evening when they pulled over a Jefferson County pair just before 10pm. According to officers, authorities pulled over a 23-year-old Orlando Sanchez and 29-year-old Oneica Mainer of Mt. Vernon, Illinois on Highway 14 at Industrial Avenue. Also in the vehicle were a pair of 17-year-olds. Mainer and Sanchez were taken into custody on charges of Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle, issued Notice to Appear citations and released. They’re both due in White County court on April 28th at 9am.

Just before midnight, a Carmi Police Sergeant pulled over 37-year-old Matthew Heffington of Omaha. He was placed in cuffs on a White County warrant. Heffington was originally arrested back in December of 2023 and found guilty of Driving on a Suspended License. In March of 2024, Heffington was given two years of supervision and fined. According to online court records, Heffington would fail to appear at two subsequent reviews and never made a payment on the $577.50 fine. The warrant was issued in July of 2024. Heffington spent the weekend in jail and is due in White County court at 10am Monday.

A quiet Saturday in the city would give way to two domestic battery calls resulting in arrests Sunday. The first, just after 7:30am, ended in 54-year-old Jeanetta Felty of Carmi in custody. Police were called to an active Domestic Battery in progress at 706 2nd Street. Following an investigation, the report indicates Felty was arrested on a Domestic Battery charge and officers say they’re also requesting a warrant for Hershel Felty on the same charge. Mr. Felty was taken to the hospital for health reasons.

Sunday evening, shortly after 9pm, officers were called to a home on 4th Street and subsequently placed 46-year-old Jennifer Rumsey in custody. She’s facing a charge of Domestic Battery with the victim being a 43-year-old male. Rumsey is due in court Monday morning.
