Carmi City Council approves employee Christmas bonuses

The Carmi City Council met Tuesday night for the second time in November.  After approval of minutes and financials, the Council agreed to pay Christmas bonuses to City employees out of Light and Water Department funds.  Full time employees will receive $60 plus $5 for each year of service, while part-time employees, firemen, and EMA personnel will each receive $60.

An amendment to liquor ordinance #1529 to allow pour sales at package stores with video gaming areas was approved unanimously without discussion.

The Council also approved an EPA recommendation to raise water rates by $0.50 per 1000 gallons to bring the City into compliance as the City is attempting to receive a grant for work on Marguerite Street.

Mayor Jeff Pollard would like to invite residents to the Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday starting at 6 pm.  Following the parade and tree lighting ceremony, Santa Clause will be meeting with children at his house at Veterans Park.

Stay Positive, Stay Aggressive Incorporated is holding their third annual 100 for 100 Christmas drive, this year benefiting Kindergartener Kamden Myers.

On Monday, December 4th at noon, there will be a state wide flag rising to honor the State of Illinois Bicentennial at the request of Governor Bruce Rauner.  Everyone is invited to the ceremony.

The Carmi City Council will meet again on Tuesday, December 5th.
