Bulldogs Drop Opener at DuQuoin Tip-Off Classic

The Carmi-White County Bulldogs struggled to find their rhythm Wednesday night, falling to the host Indians 54-24 at the DuQuoin Tip-Off Classic.

The Bulldogs trailed 16-7 after the first quarter and went into halftime down 24-11 as the Indians controlled the pace on both ends of the floor. DuQuoin continued to pull away in the second half, extending their lead to 37-19 after three quarters before sealing the win.

Merick Millhorn led Carmi-White County with 13 points, providing the bulk of the Bulldogs’ offense. Jaxon Bradshaw scored 4, Justus Tauiliili added 3, and Javan Lucas and Kyzen Edwards each finished with 2 points.

“We did some good things. Whenever we’re short-handed the way we are in some spots versus some good quality teams, we just got to keep stacking what we do in practice and trying to get better,” said CWC Head Coach Kevin Wolff.

With the loss, the Bulldogs fall to 0-2 on the season. They’ll return to DuQuoin Thursday night for the 5th Place Semifinals, where they will face Chester, who is coming off a heartbreaking 51-49 buzzer-beater loss to Herrin.
