The Carmi-White County wrestling team responded in a big way Thursday night, earning a pair of victories in a triangular meet at Johnston City. Just two days removed from a tough outing in Herrin, the Bulldogs polled past Sparta 54-21 before closing the night with a 54-30 win over the host Indians.
Against Sparta, Gage Anderson, Nolan Garner, and Cameron Winter all received forfeit wins. Kenny Clark, Connor Benham, Caleb King, Cole Evans, Branson Burnett, and Laeden Vargas all pinned their opponents in the first period.
The Bulldogs then defeated Johnston City 54-30. Anderson added another forfeit win, joined by teammate Dylan Combs. Clark, Benham, King, and Evans continued their strong form with second-period pins. Jazz Duckworth earned a third-period pin to keep CWC in command. Burnett and Vargas once again capped off the team’s effort with first-period pins.
The Bulldogs will have the rest of the week off, their next match will be Tuesday when they travel to Breese Central.
