Aug. 8, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. – The ServSafe Food Manager Course for food service sanitation certification or recertification will be held on SIC’s Harrisburg campus in room G116. This course is completed in one day. The in-district cost is $121 and includes the exam given during the class. To register, call 618-252-5400 ext. 4120.
Aug. 10 – SIC resumes its regular office hours of Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Aug. 11, 2-3:30 p.m.; 5:30-7 p.m. – SIC will host New Student Orientation in the Learning Commons. Students can get their student ID/library card, receive help with technology and online class access, explore resources like the TRIO program, and take guided campus tours. An optional session on library services, tutoring, and tech tools will be offered between the two main sessions. Registration is recommended but not required. Aug. 13, 4-5 p.m.; Aug. 17, 9-10 a.m. and 4-5 p.m.; Aug. 18, noon-1 p.m. – SIC will offer Canvas Online Classes Orientation sessions to help students prepare for online courses. Aug. 17, 7-8:50 p.m. – The SIC Community Jazz Band will hold its first rehearsal of the semester. The band is open to all community members ages 16 and older at no cost. Email [email protected] for more info.

Aug. 18, 9-11 a.m. – The Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIC, in partnership with Rice Accounting & Tax, will offer a free Basic Accounting workshop for small business owners, entrepreneurs and anyone interested in learning accounting fundamentals. Aug. 18, 3:30 p.m. – Starting a Business in Illinois. The Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIC will host a free workshop for individuals interested in starting a business at the Harrisburg Public Library. The workshop is open to the public. Aug. 18, 4 p.m. –The SIC Board of Trustees meeting will be held in the Rodney J. Brenner Board Room.
Aug. 19, 5 p.m. – SIC Theatre will hold auditions for The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in the Theatre. Auditions are open to SIC students only. Participants should prepare a one-minute monologue and be ready to read from the script. For more info, call 618-252-5400, ext. 2486.

Aug. 21-22 – SIC will host its annual Volleyball Tournament at Deaton Gymnasium, featuring junior college volleyball teams from Illinois, Tennessee and Missouri. Aug. 24 – Entries are due for the Ella Elizabeth Hise Museum of Regional Art’s Commemorate Regional Artists Exhibition at SIC. Regional artists may submit up to three original works. Aug. 27, 6:30-7:30 p.m. – SIC will host an informational meeting for the SIC Children’s Choir in the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Arts Center Lower Lobby. The choir is open to students in grades 3-8, with or without prior singing experience. Rehearsals will be held Thursdays, and the semester will conclude with a concert. Aug. 28, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. – The Southern Illinois Community Foundation, hosted by SIC, will present a free White County Nonprofit Workshop at the SIC Carmi Campus for nonprofit staff, board members, volunteers and community leaders.
