Donna Marie Gaines, 62, of McLeansboro, IL passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 at her home. Donna was born on August 14, 1964 in Flint, Michigan and was raised by her adoptive parents Otto & Ruth Smiley. She married Michael Gaines, who preceded her in death.
Donna worked as a beautician and she was an active member of the Turning Point Church of God in McLeansboro. Despite facing many health problems, Donna remained strong, outgoing, and pleasant. She also possessed a strong love for the Lord. She enjoyed puzzles, crosswords, electronic solitaire, and helping her daughter with her grandchildren.
Donna is survived by her daughter Crystal Gonterman of West Salem, IL and her 2 grandchildren: Kristliee Gonterman and Alexis Brand.
She was preceded in death by her parents Otto & Ruth Smiley, her husband Michael Gaines, her son Christopher Sanders, and her brother Roger Smiley.
No formal services for Donna Marie Gaines will be held at this time. Gholson Funeral Home of McLeansboro is assisting the family with arrangements.
