Upcoming Events at Southeastern Illinois College

Sept. 26, 8 a.m.–1 p.m. – SIC will begin a free two-day OSHA 10 Certification course for general industry in Room G113 on the Harrisburg campus. The second session will be held Oct. 10 from 9 a.m.–2 p.m. Participants must be 18 or older and attend both sessions. Enrollment is limited to 10. Register at sic.jotform.com/262316146163957. Sept. 25 – 10 a.m.-6 p.m. – The SIC Esports team will host a charity gaming event in the Esports Arena to benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and childhood cancer research. Attendees can play Call of Duty with team members while they livestream to raise funds. The event is free and open to the public, and participants may drop in throughout the day. Anyone under age 17 must have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian. Snacks and refreshments will be provided.

Sept. 26 – SIC Men’s Basketball will host two camps at Deaton Gym. A Skills Camp for boys and girls in grades 3–8 will run from 9 a.m.–1 p.m., followed by an Elite Camp for high school boys from 1:30–5:30 p.m. The cost is $75 per camp and includes a T-shirt. To register, email [email protected].

Sept. 29, 9 a.m.–11 a.m. – A Franklin University representative will be available in the A/B Lobby at SIC to meet with students interested in transferring there.

Sept. 30, 9–11 a.m. – SIC will host the free Soar and Explore College Fair in Deaton Gym. Area high school juniors and seniors and current college students can meet representatives from universities and explore SIC programs and student organizations. Sept. 30, 2 p.m. – SIC will host a nursing advisement meeting in the Nursing Department in the T Building for students interested in applying to the Practical Nursing or Associate Degree Nursing program. Oct. 1, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. – A University of Southern Indiana representative will be available in the A/B Lobby at SIC to meet with students interested in transferring to USI.

Oct. 1, 1 p.m. – Illinois native and author James Alan Gill will discuss his historical thriller “Carbon City, 1925” as part of SIC’s Southern Illinois Storytellers series. Oct. 1 – SIC Outfitter Wildlife Management students will participate in their annual OWL Overnight Camping Event at the Chuck Hearn Outdoor Education Complex as part of OWL Activity Week. Students will practice outdoor guiding skills, including setting up camp and outdoor cooking. This is a private event for OWL students only. Oct. 3, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. – The ServSafe Food Manager Course for food service sanitation certification or recertification will be held on SIC’s Harrisburg campus in room G116. This course is completed in one day. The in-district cost is $121 and includes the exam given during the class. To register, call 618-252-5400 ext. 4120.

Oct. 7 – 9 a.m.-1 p.m. – High School STEM Day will be held at Southeastern Illinois College. Juniors and seniors from SIC-district high schools will participate in activities and presentations highlighting STEM opportunities in areas such as biotechnology, ecology, microbiology, anatomy, physics, information technology, and mathematics. Oct. 9 – 11:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. – Staff Development Day will be held at SIC. Classes will be dismissed at 11:30 a.m.

Oct. 10 – 10 a.m. – SIC Baseball will host a High School and Transfer Showcase at the SIC Baseball Field. The showcase is open to high school and transfer baseball players interested in showcasing their skills for the SIC Baseball coaching staff. Check-in begins at 9:30 a.m. Cost is $75 for pitchers or position players and $100 for those participating as both. Oct. 13 – 7 p.m. – SIC’s Community Chorus will present “Poetry in Harmony” in the George T. Dennis Visual & Performing Arts Center Lobby. Oct. 15 – 11 a.m. – The Illinois Small Business Development Center at SIC will host a free online “Starting a Business in Illinois” workshop via Zoom. The webinar will cover topics such as starting a business, business planning, market research, business growth, and available small business resources.
