The Carmi-White County Jr. High Baseball team saw its 2026 season come to an end Thursday night, falling to Olney in the SIJHSAA Regional Semifinals by a final score of 2-1.
It was a pitchers’ duel from the start, with neither team finding much offense through the first three innings. Olney finally broke through in the bottom of the 4th inning, scoring the game’s first run to take a 1-0 lead.
The Cubs added another run in the 6th inning after opening the frame with a triple and then bringing the runner home on a sacrifice fly. That gave Olney a 2-0 lead heading into the final inning.
With their season on the line and needing two runs to stay alive, the Bullpups gave themselves a chance in the top of the 7th. Carmi loaded the bases with no outs, putting the tying run in scoring position.
After a pop out and a line out, Jack Taylor came through with an RBI single to get the Bullpups on the board and bring MJ Gilpin home. However, Carmi was unable to bring home the tying run, ending the game with Olney holding on for the 2-1 victory.
The loss brings the Bullpups’ season to an end with an 11-4 record. Carmi put together a strong season, including a stretch where the team won nine straight games.
“I am very proud of how the boys improved throughout the entire season,” said CWC coach Travis Black. “I am very excited to see what we can do next year, and I’m excited to see our 8th graders play in high school.”
