Beginning in October, Crossville Trustees will move to a once a month meeting which matches the frequency of other villages in the county. That was one of only a few decisions made Tuesday night. The board once again tabled the complaint policy resolution that’s been discussed since May. Trustee Nikki Jacobs brought the policy up in the spring, but no movement or real discussion has occurred.

Jacobs also said she was stepping aside from an animal control dog bite case involving Otto, citing personal reasons and conflict of interest. On August 20th, a 7-year-old was bitten by Otto and according to the report, animal control has concerns over the safety of the community. Dog catcher Amanda Mercer says the case involves individuals on the council and the mayor himself and has expressed her concerns over the case’s handling. Jacobs was just named to that committee at the last Crossville meeting.
Crossville will host a fall curbside cleanup on Monday, October 26th. More details on that including a village dumpster will be forthcoming. The final 15 minutes of the 25 minute gathering centered on open meeting during which the council heard from Joe Wood, a resident who shared his hopes for the community, Zach Cotton who has finally gotten what he wanted with a neighbor taking down a mailbox opting for a post office box, and a legal notice from the Illinois Attorney General. Mayor Rick Kuykendall says he received a request from Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul’s office to review an allegation from Trustee Jacobs who suggests the board violated the Open Meetings Act. In the letter, Jacobs alleges at it’s August 10th meeting, the board discussed matters in closed session that didn’t fall within the parameters of scope. She says the board discussed interpersonal matters concerning herself and a village employee along with others. Kuykendall says the village attorney, Jonathan Turpin has suggested he wasn’t getting involved. The letter requests the village to provide copies of the agenda, open and closed minutes, and also a recording of the closed session from August 10th. That response will be due by September 17th.
