Carmi Police pulled over 40-year-old Norris City woman Amanda Ruiz on Saturday morning for suspended registration. Ruiz was cited for the offense and then arrested for possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle. She was later released from the White County Jail, and her first appearance is scheduled for October 6 at 9:00 a.m.
A few hours later on Saturday, another Norris City resident, David Houser, was arrested following a traffic stop for driving while license suspended. Houser was booked and released, with a first appearance set for October 6 at 9 am; S&E Auto towed his vehicle from the scene.
Just after 1 am on Sunday, 22-year-old Hunter Burnett was pulled over for speeding. According to the Carmi Police arrest report, Burnett was placed under arrest for a handful of charges: aggravated unlawful possession of a weapon without a FOID card, unlawful possession of a weapon, unserialized firearm, driving under the influence of alcohol, and DUI BAC over .08. He was also cited for operating an uninsured vehicle and speeding.
The weapon charges do not show on online court records. Burnett’s first appearance will be on October 13 at 9 am.
Around 3 pm on Sunday, Timothy Martisko was placed under arrest and later released on a charge of possession of cannabis in a motor vehicle. Cherry Street Automotive towed his vehicle from the scene. His first court appearance will be on October 13 at 9 am.
A failure-to-appear arrest warrant for a charge of aggravated domestic battery was issued for 44-year-old Charles Scott, and on Sunday, Carmi Police arrested him at the intersection of Stewart Street and Second Street. Scott has been detained at the White County Jail until he goes before a judge on Tuesday morning.
What started as a traffic stop for loud exhaust and no registration lights turned into something more for Omaha resident Jamie Ferguson. She was arrested for driving on a suspended license and cited for illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver. Ferguson will appear in court for the first time on October 13 at 9 am.
Carmi Police officers responded to a fight in progress at a residence on Seventh Street before 1 pm on Labor Day. Once the officers arrived, the fight was over, but after an investigation, Timothy Turner was arrested for aggravated batter in a public place. Turner was transported to the White County Jail, where he has been waiting to see a judge.
Last up for the weekend arrests, 50-year-old Casey Soulsby was arrested after a traffic stop for driving on a suspended license. This is the second arrest for the same offense; the first arrest for a suspended license was in August of this year.
