Half of Crossville’s Tuesday night board meeting was spent learning and considering a proposal by Aveyo Solar. A local resident, Ford Johnson turned city employee Derek Spicer onto the company, and Austin Townsend, VP and part owner of the company headquartered in Springfield, Illinois dropped in to present a plan. The proposal surrounds utilizing solar at the sewer plant. The cost of the system would be $155,500. Townsend says five incentives and tax rebates would offset the cost to the tune of more than $112,000 and he estimates the system would pay for itself in 4 – 6 years. Trustees chose to table the matter for further consideration.
Also Tuesday, trustees shot down Crossville Communications’ attempt to revise their franchise agreement. At the August 11th gathering, leaders were presented with a request to revise the agreement since the village has moved phone service to Voice over Internet Protocol following an accepted proposal from Dave Burrows.

Leaders also tabled Trustee Nikki Jacobs’ complaint policy resolution, opting to wait for Trustee Heather Guinn who was absent an opportunity to be present for discussion.
The Crossville Fire Department is now in possession of a 1997 GMC 3500. The vehicle belonged to the White County Ambulance Service and only has 15,000 miles. The purchase was prompted thanks to the expected cost of repairs to another fire department vehicle that Chief Lance Clevenger says goes on 98% of runs. Clevenger says the transmission needs replaced, emergency lights need replaced and the brakes have shown signs of failing and he estimates the cost of those repairs to be $8,000. Adam Allen was at the Crossville meeting with title in hand to expedite the $5,000 sale.
The board also signed off on only holding meetings on the second Tuesday of the month on a regular basis instead of twice a month. Trustee Miranda Kuykendall voted no.
A tree at 504 Morrell on city property will be taken down at a cost of $1,300 to Shawnee Hill Tree Removal. The hope is to repair the sidewalk that trees roots have affected.
In community news, leaders plan to look into a fall cleanup in coordination with when they can get a dumpster from Bulldog Systems. Park Committee Chair Nancy Osborne reported Trunk or Treat will be held from 4p – 7p and the fireworks purchased for this past July will be stored and utilized in July of 2027.
