The Carmi-White County Junior High Baseball and Softball teams hosted Eldorado on Tuesday, and both teams picked up run-rule victories.
The Bullpups came away with a 14-2 win.
Carmi got things going in the bottom of the 1st inning, scoring seven runs to take an early 7-0 lead. Beckam Moore, Sam Lynn, and Tyson May each drove in a run with RBI singles, while Gage Whetstone, Jerrick Rager, Mossyn Blazier, and Hendrix Puntney all came around to score on two passed balls and two ground outs.
Eldorado answered with two runs in the top of the 3rd inning to cut the Bullpups’ lead to 7-2, but Carmi quickly responded with five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Bennett Moore scored on a passed ball, while Bennett Tomassetti came home after being hit by a pitch. Rager then delivered the big hit of the inning, smacking a bases-clearing 3-run triple that brought home Jack Taylor, Beckam Moore, and Lynn to extend the lead to 12-2.
The Bullpups finished things off in the bottom of the 4th inning. May came through with a single that scored Taylor and Beckam Moore, giving Carmi the 14-2 victory and ending the game via the run rule.
Tyson May earned the complete-game win, pitching all four innings and allowing just two runs on two hits while striking out seven.
The Bullpups improve to 2-2 on the season, they’ll have the rest of the week off before traveling to Fairfield on Monday.
The Lady Bullpups also picked up a run-rule victory, shutting out Eldorado 10-0.
Carmi scored twice in the bottom of the 1st inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Auna Goff drove in the first run with an RBI double, and she later came around to score on a passed ball.
The Lady Bullpups added four more runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to extend the lead to 6-0. Graecelyn O’Neal scored on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Alyss Courson, while Goff drove in Cabella Emery and Mollie Burnett with an RBI single. Goff then scored on an RBI groundout by Emma Ricketts.
Carmi added another run in the bottom of the 3rd inning when O’Neal scored on a wild pitch, making it 7-0 after three innings.
The Lady Bullpups put the game away in the bottom of the 4th inning, scoring three more runs. Sophia Jamison hit a 2-run inside-the-park home run to make it 9-0, and Rihanna Hillyard later scored on an error to push the lead to 10-0.
Eldorado was held scoreless in the top of the 5th inning, ending the game via the run rule.
Mollie Burnett earned the win in the circle, pitching four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and striking out eight. Graecelyn O’Neal also pitched a scoreless inning and recorded two strikeouts.
The Lady Bullpups improve to 4-3 on the season. They will be back in action Saturday at the Fairfield Tournament, with their first game scheduled for 8:30 AM against Crab Orchard.
