39-year-old John Smith had four open cases in White County Court, but thanks to a plea deal with State’s Attorney Chris Neal, three cases were dismissed.
Smith’s plea deal surrounded a case from November 2024. Smith’s plea only covered two of seven counts. Smith pled guilty and will be on probation for two years, serve a 6-month stayed jail sentence, pay restitution to Walmart, and pay court costs for the charge of Unlawful Use of Property. The other charge, Driving while License Suspended, will see him serve two years of court supervision.
The other five charges in the November 2024 case that were dismissed are: Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Unlawful Use of Cannabis, and Operating a Vehicle with Suspended Registration.
Smith was arrested back in August 2025 for Retail Theft, which was dismissed in the plea deal. Along with two other court cases in 2024, in August and October, for charges of Forgery, Possession of Methamphetamine, Unlawful Use of Property, Assault, and Disorderly Conduct.
