Fiscal Year 2026 Budget and Insurance Renewal Discussed at CWC School Board Meeting

The Carmi-White County School Board began its June meeting with the Fiscal Year 2026 budget.
Superintendent Jarrod Newell provided details for multiple fund categories, including the education fund with projected expenditures of $17,348,522 and a cash balance of $15,774,528. More numbers were discussed, but Newell ended with a positive fund balance of $590,120 when all planned spending is accounted for.
Following the budget hearing, the regularly scheduled board meeting began 7 minutes later. The board approved the amended FY26 budget, as well as the district’s commercial and workers’ compensation insurance renewal.
The renewal did jump significantly, by 5.75%, from the previous year’s $326,264 to $345,010. The renewals consist of: Wright Specialty Insurance, Accident Fund for Workers’ Compensation, CFC for Cyber Liability, Gerber Life, and AIG.
Even though it’s summer, Superintendent Newell gave updates on activities within the district. Building administrators and office staff are busy ordering supplies for the upcoming school year, and end-of-year reports and updates are rounding out, while bus routes and potential future grants are being finalized.
The first day of school for students will be August 12th, with Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday being early dismissals.
The board went into executive session with many resignations approved for the upcoming year.
