A Mt. Vernon, Indiana, woman and former Posey County Solid Waste employee had a court appearance on Wednesday morning.
46-year-old Jennifer Tinsley will serve two years at the Indiana Department of Corrections, with the first six months in prison followed by the balance served on Posey County Community Corrections. Tinsley was also ordered to pay restitution to Posey County for the funds stolen.
Tinsley’s sentence stems from her guilty plea to two counts of Theft and one count of Forgery. She admitted to stealing funds from Posey County Solid Waste during 2023-2024, while employed.
According to court records, an investigation by the Indiana State Police and the Indiana State Board of Accounts revealed that, from April 2023 through February 2024, Tinsley received $21,274.52 in unauthorized checks and $4,550.50 in fraudulent payroll checks, for a total of $25,852.02.
During an interview with investigators, Tinsley stated that she forged fraudulent vendor and payroll checks payable to herself.
