The Carmi-White County Softball team defeated Benton yesterday in the IHSA Regional Quarterfinals by a final score of 4-3.
The Lady Bulldogs were up 3-0 when yesterday’s game resumed in the 3rd inning, but Benton would score twice in the 3rd to cut the Carmi lead to 3-2.
Carmi then extended that lead to 4-2 in the top of the 4th on a solo home run by Maggie Pearce, the first home run of her career. Benton scored once in the 7th to make it 4-3, but they would leave the tying run stranded as the Lady Dogs held on to get the win.
Not only was Pearce’s home run the difference in the score, but Pearce earned the win in the circle, pitching all 7 innings allowing 3 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts.
The Lady Bulldogs improve to 10-19 on the season. They will face Mt. Carmel this afternoon in the IHSA Regional Semifinals at Archie Brown Field. Fans can watch today’s game on the WRUL Sports YouTube Channel. First pitch is set for 4 PM.
The Carmi-White County Baseball team picked up a 3-1 win over Hamilton County in their final home game of the season.
Merick Millhorn picked up his 3rd win of the season, pitching all 7 innings and allowing just 1 run on 3 hits with 10 strikeouts. Millhorn also hit his 3rd home run of the season, and Maxon O’Daniel hit his second home run of the year.
The Bulldogs improve to 7-19 on the season and they finished play in the Black Diamond Conference with a 3-7 record. Carmi will wrap up the regular season this afternoon as they travel to Mt. Vernon (IN).
Best of luck to the Carmi-White County Boys Track team, they will travel to Fairfield today for the IHSA Sectional.
