The Carmi White County School Board met Monday night for 15 minutes. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
Only two major items were on the light agenda.
The board gave permission for the district to seek bids for summer maintenance projects. They approved a bid of $108,000 from Byrne & Jones Construction of St. Louis for repairs to the High School track. A new synthetic surfacing system will replace six lanes of the existing track surface and both the high jump and long jump areas, along with repairs to the pole vault. Also approved was a bid of $22,000 from Byrne & Jones for repairing edges of the synthetic track surface.
And the board approved its calendar of meeting dates. Meetings will be held as they were this school year, at 6 PM on the third Monday of each month. Exemptions are for June, December, January and February due those meetings falling on a holiday.
The Superintendent’s report consisted only of dates and times for end-of-year school events. The last day of school for Unit 5 students is May26th and the last day for Unit 5 staff is May 27th.
The Consent Agenda was approved:
First Bank will remain the permanent depository for school funds, there’s a total of $1,191.88 in donations for the Brownsville School, a leave of absent request for Presley Walker for 20 days at substitute pay deduction was accepted, 25 board policies were preliminarily adopted as amended with final action set for the May meeting, three board policies were approved with no changes, the district Parent and Family Engagement policy was approved , and four vehicles were approved as surplus property: a 2019 Ford Van ¾ Ton, a 2005 Chevrolet Malibu, a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban and a 1994 GMC Pickup Single Cab.
The board went into Closed Session at 6:15 PM to discuss personnel, a review of closed session minutes and collective negotiations.
During closed session, the board approved four resignations for this school year: Rachel Essary as a bus driver, Lukas Matsel as a 5th grade boys basketball coach, Suzanne Pretzsch as an individual aide at Brownsville, and Ariana Watts as a teacher at Carmi White County High School. One reassignment was made with Danielle Shephard as a classroom aide at Jefferson Attendance Center; and the board agreed to employ Kiarra Martin as a morning supervisor at Lincoln Attendance Center.
