Enfield Village Board Holds Two Hour Meeting

Scott Mareing was there for WROY/WRUL News and has the story…
There have been some concerns about holding a Fourth of July fireworks display, believing that it’s dangerous or a liability insurance issue.  Mayor Maurie Black began the meeting by saying that he wanted the village’s insurance rep to appear before the board and explain the insurance side, but he was unable to attend.  Black will try to get him to appear at the next meeting.
In old business, work was still ongoing for street lighting and an estimate for Community Center repairs, they’re still working on a park grant, bids are still open for the parcel of land on Miller Street, they are still looking for a burnisher, there are two security video and audio cameras in the village building now and other cameras will go up around town soon, and it was decided that the town wide rummage sale will be on Saturday May 16th with town wide cleanup day to be on April 25th.
Trish Bellmore from the Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission addressed the board about them renting the kitchen of the Enfield Community Center to feed school children in the area, paid for with grant money from the USDA and a non-governmental group.  After much discussion concerning Enfield’s involvement in the project, the board decided to approve the proposal.
For about half an hour in the visitor’s comment segment of the meeting, former Enfield Mayor Tom Harbour and a few other citizens said there were too many properties in the village that need to be cleaned up, many with abandoned vehicles in the front yards.  Several of the board members said that this problem needs to be taken care of, but it’s hard to do many times to find out who actually owns the properties, but they are going through the proper procedures to try to remedy the situation.  They will come up with an updated list of offenders and continue to crack down on them.
The new Utilities’ Department employee passed his gas certification, so he can now accept calls.
Tammy Jones of the village wrote a thank-you letter for the work done on the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
The board then met for a half hour Executive Session to discuss employee raises.  After the session it was announced that all village employees will receive a 2.8% pay increase beginning May 1st.
The board adjourned at 9:03 PM.
