Grayville Leaders Accept Bids on Excess Equipment; Make $10K, Agree to Sell 3 Parcels, Update on Water Filtration Plant

Grayville leaders took just twenty minutes to work through a handful of agenda items Monday night.  Other than approving the annual budget following a public hearing immediately prior to the regular session, commissioners also voted to release the remaining $7,500 budgeted to help with the Grayville Senior Citizens Center.  The board had already paid out $2,500 to help with utilities.

Also Monday night, Groff Memorial Library Board Members and Officers were approved by Council.  They include President Andy Brock, VP Marionette Blood, Secretary Kayla DeStefano, and Treasurer Kate Clark.  New board members include Morgan Dimaggio and Jamie Compton.  They’re taking the place of outgoing board members Dale Moseberger and Linda Bova.

Grayville will be selling three parcels it owns.  They include 117 East Martin Street, 214 West North Street, and 611 Water Street.  The city also accepted bids on 29 of it’s 36 items of excess equipment.  In all, sales should bring more than $10,870 in for the city.

Finally, commissioners approved the renewal of gas liability insurance with Shepherd Insurance.  The premium only went up $58 from last year at $7,727.00.

Police Chief Mason Siegel gave March statistics for the department which included 227 calls for service resulting in ten arrests, ten citations, and a solitary written warning.

Commissioner Baldwin thanked the owners of Wabash Antique Exchange saying they adopted the area around the Veterans flags are planting new plants, raking and removing leaves and committing to take care of it for the summer.  Baldwin says he hopes other businesses might step up to help out as well.

Mayor Travis Thompson says mosquito spraying is ongoing.  The water tower cleaning is complete.  Thompson says the inside was worse than they thought so it took longer than anticipated.  He also says the plans are moving forward for the new W2E Water Filtration Plant.  The project is made possible through grants totaling $10 million according to Thompson.  He says the project start is anticipated for August of 2027.
