While The Smokin’ Pig retreated on the request to begin liquor sales at 10am on Sundays, they may have gotten something to pay off even bigger. Grayville leaders gathered for a special city council meeting Tuesday morning to consider a Revolving Loan Request. Commissioners Chris James and Don Baldwin were absent. The request was the only item on the agenda for the specially called session. Treasurer Sharon Walden shared her perspective during the five-minute meeting.
Now to me this is what Revolving Loan monies are about…helping businesses. The Smokin Pig hires a lot of our young people. They teach them a work ethic, customer service, and what it feels like to be proud of a job well done. Look at the crowds it pulls into Grayville. These customers might buy a tank of gas, wash the dirt off their car, or drive down and look at our depot. I don’t have a vote, but I do have an opinion. The city of Grayville should help The Smokin Pig with a short term low-interest loan. Let’s help a family member of Grayville.
Following brief discussion surrounding how the loan will help Bunting consolidate 3 other loans and “save them between a thousand and two thousand dollars a month”, Commissioner Scott Browning made a motion to approve the loan. Commissioner Andi Ford seconded that motion and Mayor Travis Thompson agreed.
