Marieta Kay (Johnson) Hammond, 78, of Olney, Illinois, formerly of Ridgway, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2026 at Lawrence County Hospital in Lawrenceville Illinois.
Marieta was born April 5, 1947 in Ridgway, the daughter of Harliss and Beatrice (Sisk) Johnson. Marieta and Russell Hammond were married on November 2, 2002 in Galveston, Texas, and together they shared a beautiful life.
Marieta was a long-time Walmart Associate and made many friends everywhere she went. She loved traveling and going on vacation. She especially loved the beach. Marieta was "Mom" to a very large group of girls. She loved music and dancing and cherished her snowman collection. Marieta "Gran" cherished the time she spent with her grandkids and her great grandkids. She will be dearly missed by all that knew her.
Marieta is survived by her husband, Russell of Olney; daughter, Sherri (Danny) Fielden, of Olney; son, Gary (Lisa) Patton of Panama City Beach, FL; grandchildren, Maggie (Adam) McKnight, Kirk (Lauren) Patton, Addie (Fiancée Nic Hagel) Patton; great grandchildren, June, Rowan, Calvin, and Quinn; brother, Dewey (Nina) Johnson of Eldorado, IL, and many other beloved extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents; great grandchildren, Henry and Evelyn Patton; siblings, Bob Ballard, Marlene Mills, and Donald Ballard; daughter-in-law, Darci (Lindsay) Patton.
Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney has been entrusted with arrangements.
A visitation will be held for friends and family from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Kistler-Patterson Funeral Home in Olney.
Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.
