A Poseyville man will be on his way to the Indiana Department of Corrections following his sentencing hearing held Tuesday at Posey County Court.
Steven Goodwin was sentenced by Judge Craig Goedde to 42 months in prison following his conviction on three felonies: Domestic Battery in the Presence of a Child Under 16, Domestic Battery Resulting in Moderate Bodily Injury, and Criminal Confinement. This sentencing followed a detailed presentation of the case against him.
During his sentencing hearing, the victim shared her testimony to the court regarding the impact that years of physical and verbal abuse had on not only her but also their 10-year-old son.
According to police records, in September 2025, law enforcement responded to a 911 call made by a juvenile, who reported that his mother was being physically abused by his father. The child had fled the residence to seek help before authorities arrived.
The Indiana State Police conducted an investigation and gathered substantial evidence against Goodwin, who later admitted to the incident. Goodwin was arrested that night and has remained in custody since.
Posey County Prosecutor Thomas Clowers requested that Goodwin receive the maximum sentence permitted under Indiana law, without a plea agreement.
