Carmi Council Clocks Ten Minute Tuesday Meeting Placing Surplus Equipment for Bid

It took less than ten minute to run through the February 3rd Carmi City Council meeting.  After approving a partial payment to Elevation Coatings & Restoration on the water tower amounting to $35,407.50, council approved selling surplus equipment.  Bid packets can be picked up at the Light and Water office between 7am and 3pm Monday – Friday.  If you have questions, contact the city at 618-384-2001.  Up for bid are:

1952 International L-162

1970 Ford 850

1972 International Loadster 1700

1984 Chevy Van G30

1986 Ford pickup

Mayor Stendeback credited City Clerk Cynthia Attebury for her perseverance in getting the titles for four of the five vehicles, the process he described as recalcitrant.  Attebury described the difficulty.

The problem was that, like this 1952 model, what I had was just a piece of paper like this that just said that on there and they didn’t have it in their system at the Secretary of State’s office.  So, Illinois Municipal League had to actually sue the Secretary of State in order to get new titles produced.  It’s the craziest thing ever.  I’ve never heard of such a thing, but that’s what had to happen.

Stendeback also credited the city workers for their efforts cleaning up after the snow storm.  He says they’re not done and were out beginning at 10pm Tuesday evening to clean more of Main Street and hauling off the big piles.

The only public comment came from Chula Fleming who invited leaders and everyone else to the annual Lincoln Day dinner on Thursday, February 12th at Chalk & Slate in Crossville.  The event, hosted by White County Republicans will feature a dinner at 6pm and a candidate forum beginning at 7pm.  The cost is $20 per person.

Council adjourned at 5:39pm.
