A Harrisburg man arrested Friday evening is out on his own recognizance due to medical reasons according to Carmi Police. Officers pulled over 54-year-old Stephen Pfifer of rural Harrisburg just before 8pm on West Main Street near First Bank’s branch due to his plates being suspended for a mandatory insurance violation according to the report. Pfifer would subsequently be taken into custody on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance and Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle by Driver. Additionally, he faces a charge of Operation of a Motor Vehicle while Registration is Suspended for Mandatory Insurance violation. In addition to the bag of weed, an unmarked pill bottle containing suspected heroin was secured as part of evidence. Pfifer will be due in White County court on January 20th.
