While the White County Board was wrangling with the tax levy Wednesday night, at the same time, NCOE School Board leaders were overjoyed to share that they were not only NOT instituting a 4.9% minimum increase to avoid a truth in taxation hearing, but also that they were passing a 0% increase this year. Superintendent Matt Vollman…
We estimate and we don’t know with 100% accuracy, but approximately an 8% EAV (Equalized Assessed Value) increase over last year’s which means the property values going up and we have nothing to do with property value increases. So, if that holds true, it could be a little above that, it would put our school tax rate at approximately a 2.8% tax rate. That, as far as my knowledge, would be the lowest anywhere around besides Pope and Hardin County.
Vollman says that figure includes the bond sale noting that any rumor that the bond sale would result in an increase in taxes isn’t accurate.
Vollman also talked about the new weapons detection systems saying that training was coming up for all buildings beginning January 13th at the high school. Principals all reported high attendance rates with the high school coming into December with a cumulative 94%. Grade school attendance for November was above 93%. With a nasty norovirus cutting its way through school, those numbers will certainly come down at the January school board meeting.
The board recessed into executive session at 7:28pm.
