31-year-old Melvin Lewis of Carmi is behind bars and charged with several new felonies and misdemeanors after he was arrested Friday afternoon. Carmi Police say they took Lewis into custody just before 2pm near the intersection of Oak and Burrell. He’s facing charges of Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, Unlawful Use of Property, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Possession of Meth, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Possession of a Controlled Substance (pill), Resisting Arrest with Injury, Obstructing Justice, Criminal Damage to Government Supported Property, Possession of an Open Title, Threating a Public Official, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Possession of Hypodermic Syringe Needles, and Driving while License Suspended. Lewis has been arrested multiple times this year already including back in June on drug related charges.
