Cut Off:  Grayville Senior Center Says Its Been Stymied by Edwards County

Grayville’s Senior Center is scrambling and angry after they say the board of the Edwards County Senior Center has voted unanimously to cut them off at the end of the month.  In a release, the senior center says they were informed last Friday that the action was taken at a meeting where any discussion on the Grayville Center wasn’t on the agenda.  They say the reason given was due to accrued substantial losses.  They have requested financial statements to verify that information and haven’t received it as of yet.  Leaders say that Edwards County provides Grayville with food and the paper goods to serve it; that they don’t pay for any salaries, utilities, rent, and that all of Grayville’s meal delivery drivers are volunteers.

The release goes on to say the only expenses they’ve bee told about were for someone driving food from Albion to the Grayville Center on days they were open and that they were never informed of it being an issue.  They say they would’ve had a volunteer drive to Albion daily to pick up the food.  The release calls the handling of the situation unscrupulous and repulsive.

The final day for meals at the Grayville Senior Center is Wednesday, November 26th.  Those that work at the Grayville Center are calling for a forensic audit of the accounts of the Edwards County Senior Center.  Additionally, they say they’re reaching out to community and congressional leaders to lend a hand.

In the meantime, the Grayville Senior Center is requesting the public’s support while they navigate a new path for the organization.  The center is located at 212 East North Street in Grayville.
