Petitions Being Turned In; Due November 3rd

Petitions are out for signatures and are now making their way back into the hands of White County Clerk Kayci Heil’s office.  Candidates who have signaled their intention to run in next spring’s election primary have until next Wednesday, November 3rd to turn those documents in.  Given the petitions that are out, we’re expecting only one main line county-wide contested race, that being the race for the county’s top law enforcement position.  Current Sheriff Jordan Weiss has already turned in his petition paperwork.  He’s expected to be challenged by former Carmi Police Detective Chris Pollard.  Both are registered as republicans.  Current county board members including David South in District 1 and Amanda Cannon in District 2 have picked up petitions.  Newcomer Jeff Knight has signaled his intention to run for County Board District 5.  Current District 5 representative Clint Spencer, the only Democrat on the board, hasn’t picked up a petition.
