Now with 55 active members (56 by the end of the meeting), Carmi Kiwanis remains southeastern Illinois’ largest civic organization and just like clockwork, as another Corn Day has passed, the clink of new cogs in the wheel officially locked into place for club leadership positions and a new year began at noon Thursday. Dr. Frank Barbre had the honors of recognizing outgoing and installing new officers and board members.
As usual, it’s been a pretty impressive group of officers and directors.
Board members continuing in their 2024 – 2026 term or replacing members stepping down for the coming year include Jeremy Jordan, Amy McCarty, Emily Williams, and Steve Winkleman. Winkleman has been the Treasurer but will transition in the year ahead into a board role following Greg Grant’s departure. Bev Vaught will take on the Treasurer role.
Board members who will continue on in new two year terms for 2025 – 2027 include Katelyne Wolff and Larissa Hays. Jc Tinsley is also joining the board in an opening.
The new officers include Vaught at Treasurer; Kati Sturgal will continue as Secretary. Amy McCarty will step into rotation in line for presidency as 2nd VP. Eric Rahlfs will serve as 1st VP and head up making sure Kiwanis has programs over the coming year. Meagan Drone will observe as President Elect before taking the reins this same time next year. Amanda Nelson will take a breather and guide as past president after piloting the club through the last 12 months and stepping into the executive position for the club is Luke Sailer.
Nelson offered thanks and appreciation to the board and members for their help during her time at the helm.
Together, we’ve shared laughter, hard work, and most importantly service that has touched lives in our community. This role has never been about one person. It’s been about all of us working side by side, living out the Kiwanis mission of improving the world one child and one community at a time. I’m deeply grateful for the support, encouragement, and dedication each one of you have given along the way.
While Nelson prepared her remarks, Sailer spoke off the cuff saying it was an honor and a privilege to lead the club. He says his goals are similar to what his mission is as the incoming Chamber of Commerce President. He wants to engage and help form connections.
There is so much work to be done and this club does so much good. I really feel like this is just the heartbeat of Carmi.
Kiwanis meets at noon on Thursdays at the White County Farm Bureau. The club officially inducted newest member Kelsi Hunsinger at the conclusion of the weekly gathering.
