Exonerated: Charges Dropped Against Rural Enfield Man and Local Educator after Evidence Suggests Another Perpetrator

A rural Enfield man has been exonerated.  It was June 17th when alleged vandalism occurred at Carmi Family Dental.  Carmi Police began an investigation which included review of video surveillance.  Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter says officials originally believed it was Chad Garrett saying they asked the man to come in for questioning.  While he originally agreed, Carter says Garrett then changed his mind saying Garrett instead wanted legal representation.  A warrant would eventually be obtained after a formal complaint was filed on July 28th.  On August 4th, Garrett voluntarily turned himself in on the warrant and a first appearance was set for September 3rd.  Carter says that fingerprints lifted from the scene were sent off for processing and returned suggesting another individual perpetrated the crime.  On August 28th, States Attorney Chris Neal dropped the charges.  Carter says there is currently an active warrant for the person they now believe committed the crime.
