If you’re in the market for a new vehicle for transportation, you head to a car dealership. Pets at Risk hopes if you’re in the market for a new vehicle of happiness, you’ll drop by the Carmi Pound near Burrell Woods this Saturday for a Meet and Greet opportunity from 9am – noon. Pets at Risk volunteers are partnering with Carmi and White County Animal Control to host the gathering aimed at finding the nearly dozen dogs currently housed in the facility a new home. Pets at Risk President Tammy Knight says it’s a great opportunity to visit the animals, learn more about their temperament, and see if the chemistry is there before welcoming a new animal into your home.
“Pounds and shelters across the region are at or beyond capacity and we have to find ways to help get these animals into proper homes with loving, responsible owners. By coming out to the meet and greet, you can get up close with each dog and make sure that your and the dogs’ personality will gel. We want these dogs to find homes, but even more importantly we want the match to fit. To set things up for success, it’s a really good idea to come out, interact with them, and ask questions about the situation they’re coming out of so you’re prepared and know that you can provide a good future for not only them, but also you and your family.”
Coinciding with the event, Pets at Risk is inviting folks to participate in a Pet Food drive to help feed the dogs that are having to call the pound home for now. Beyond that, Pets at Risk is sponsoring the rabies vaccination for all dogs that get adopted from the pound.
