Fall Cleanup for Norris City and Dairy Days Set at Village Meeting

The Norris City Village Board met Monday night for their regular monthly meeting instead of last week due to the Mayor being out of town on vacation.

A Mr. Knight talked to the board about two water leaks at his residence asking to be reimbursed since he was out of town when they occurred, and he received two bills, the first for $481.  His commode was still running due to a faulty flush valve.  The valve was replaced after he came back. Then a second bill for $746 came just a week after the first one, with Knight thinking he couldn’t have used that much water in a week.  Mayor Skip Land said the village reimburses residents for half of an overall adjustment in cases like these.  Knight asked if maybe the water meter was faulty.  Land said he would look at the meter and see if that might have been the problem and with the board’s permission will also try to find out how much the village could reimburse him.

All the ball fields at the park are in use and will need to be maintained until cold weather hits.  Also some of the cameras will be worked on.

A letter was sent to the lumber yard asking the owner to clean up the property.

A permit for Dairy Days, which will be held on September 26th and 27th, will be filled out by the Mayor and will be sent to IDOT for road closures.

There is a trailer application from Rebecca Tibbs.  The trailer, which is located in the city, is more than ten years old.   She wants to move it to Carroll Street and tear down the house that is currently on the property.  They have the $25 application fee and before they approve it, will have a couple of board members go over and look at the trailer.  The permit then needs to be signed by at least three members of the board, the board president and the village clerk.

The Mayor received a letter from the Illinois Codification Services saying there are 13 areas on the village’s ordinances that need to be clarified, so they will contact them and see what needs to be done.

As far as Studio 114 is concerned, the village now has the deed.  Initially, the TIF money needed for repairs was $2,450, but a new estimate was received that reduced the amount to $2,407.  TIF money was already approved.

A resolution was previously approved that would allow $20,000 in MFT funds to be used for sidewalks, also, the board approved using $20,000 from TIF money.

Fall cleanup will be on September 19th and 20th.

The Greater Wabash Regional Planning Commission came down, took pictures, walked around the ball field and the village is looking at lighting the ball fields and the bathrooms at Beatty for $414,000.  They are working on the grant, which should be sent in by September 1st.

In the Police Report for July, there were two accident reports, 43 service calls and 13 Office and non-emergency calls.

The board adjourned at 7:56 PM.  The next village board meeting is Monday, September 2nd at 7 PM.
