Sheriff’s Department Serves Warrants on Garrett and Wenzel

Updated:  10/6/25:

Garrett has, since his arrest, been exonerated.  Law enforcement tells us that they have an active warrant for who they believe is the culprit.  Carmi Police Chief Jason Carter says officials believed it was Garrett in video surveillance and obtained the warrant while additional evidence was being processed.  After that evidence came back from the crime lab, fingerprints suggested another perpetrator.  The charge against Garrett was dropped on August 28th.

Original story:  White County law enforcement have handled two warrants this week according to the department.  Back on Monday, just after 12:30pm, 45-year-old Chad Garrett of rural Enfield turned himself in to authorities.  Online court records indicate the crime occurred on June 17th and the charge is Felony Criminal Damage to Property with the warrant being issued July 31st.  Garrett was processed, booked, and let go on Pre Trial Release in less than 30 minutes.  He’s due for a first appearance before Judge Webb in White County Court on the morning of September 3rd.

The other arrest came Wednesday morning.  The law enforcement officer was at 222 Fairview Drive to serve an Order of Protection on 56-year-old Charles Wenzel.  Additionally, Wenzel had an active White County Failure to Appear warrant.  That warrant dates back to a 2023 guilty plea on a charge of Theft.  In September of that year, Wenzel was given two years of probation, ordered to pay restitution, 50 hours of community service, and a 6 month stayed jail sentence.  The FTA warrant was issued in June of this year and subsequently served on Wednesday.  He was in court Thursday afternoon.
