A Carmi man is behind bars following his arrest Monday afternoon near the corner of Sycamore and 3rd. Carmi Police say they observed 44-year-old James Omans driving a Yamaha motorcycle on the roadway and knew him to be operating that machine with a Revoked License. The report indicates the officer attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but Omans failed to listen to verbal commands and began walking away while pushing the bike resulting in a pursuit. He was eventually placed into custody and jailed on charges of Driving While License Revoked, Fleeing and Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, and given citations for no insurance, no valid registration, and operating an ATV on the street. Three years ago, Omans was jailed on driving on a revoked license and operating a non-highway vehicle on a roadway. The driving on a revoked license charge was amended back in May of 2022 and White County court withheld judgement on the other charge opting to give him 3 months of supervision and ordering him to pay a fine. The charge would then be dismissed in August. On the latest charges, Omans appeared before Judge Thomas Dinn Tuesday and he’s set for a preliminary hearing before Judge Webb on July 21st.
