The Enfield Village Board met Tuesday night for just about two hours with a full agenda. Scott Mareing was there and has this report…
First order of business was the swearing in of returning and new board members. Outgoing Village Clerk Debby Stone, who is leaving after 29 years of service, administered the Oath of Office to returning Mayor Maurie Black, new Village Clerk Kayla Weaver, returning Treasurer Angela Carter, and new Village Trustees, Shelby Carter Delap and Amy Arvin. Stephen Griffin was also elected to the board, but declined to serve due to health conditions and age. The board will look at replacement candidates and have one possibly at next month’s meeting.
The village is looking to fill several positions. They’re looking for a full time police officer, an animal control officer, a janitorial worker for the Enfield Community Center, and a utility worker. You can contact the village office if interested in any of these positions.
Still no help from Ameren on the street lighting situation. The village is considering doing the work themselves.
They are still seeking people to donate a pole for Christmas lighting. There are 16 poles available. An ad will be posted on the village’s official Facebook page and a two person committee of board members Jim Bolin and Amy Arvin has been set up to determine the pole measurements.
A survey is going on to study sewer work that runs from the village building to the Highway 14 intersection and determine what’s feasible, and then they should be able to get a grant.
There’s nothing new on the truck that was purchased. It should be in by June.
The village is still getting estimates for Community Center repairs.
Only one bid to purchase the 20 acres behind the park has been received. The board approved presenting a counter offer to the person, in which the village would retain mineral rights.
There are several properties that need to be cleaned up. A list will be compiled and letters will be sent out to those that need to comply with the village ordinance, or the village can reserve the right take action, such as shutting off utilities.
Janice Crow with “Birth to Five Illinois” addressed the board to give information about their services. She has been going around speaking to the various boards in the nine counties the group covers.
The town wide rummage sale will be on Saturday, May 17th and town wide clean up is Saturday, May 31st.
There are still outside areas and rooms for rent at the Enfield Community Center. Call Debra at 618-384-6060.
The board approved the $330,000 to do a survey for the IEPA Unsewered Communities Planning Grant, approved a resolution of $115,000 to Brown & Roberts for Motor Fuel Tax funds, approved a $20,000 park grant from GWRPC to replace the bleachers and toilets at the park, and the tasers from the taser grant have been received. The village will pay $6,533.12 and will be reimbursed for the other half of the amount.
Village Secretary Tammy Jones sent the board a “thank you” card for their donation to the annual Easter Egg Hunt.
And the board decided not to make a donation to the Southern Illinois Critter Fixers of Wayne City.
The board adjourned at 8:56 PM.
