Historic Carmi Home Burns Tuesday Night

A historic home on Carmi’s northside is probably going to have to come down after a fire consumed it’s more than 120 year old frame Tuesday night.  Carmi Fire Chief Larry Hite says the call came in at around 6:25pm in reference to the residential fire at 209 3rd Street.  The home, built sometime in the 1800’s, was unoccupied at the time and an investigation into the source of the fire is ongoing.  The property is owned by Susan Brown.  Hite describes the sequence of events.

Mutual aid was called in from Enfield, Crossville, Norris City and also ladder trucks responded from Shawneetown, Ridgway, and Fairfield.  Hite called it a site you don’t see much around here and one he hopes he doesn’t have to see again anytime soon.
