Carmi Rotary Adds Member and Donates to Local Scouts

The Carmi Rotary club had a short business meeting on Thursday, as they took care of the all-important duty of inducting a new member in to the club.

Patty Mills was welcomed as the newest Rotarian in the world that morning, joining roughly 1.2 million Rotarians world-wide. Tom Logan told Patty and the rest of the club a little about the history of Rotary, and explained some of the works the local group does here in Carmi and the surrounding area.

In other business, President Patrick Haskell asked for a motion on granting a donation to the Boy Scouts for their upcoming model rocket competition. A motion was made to make a $25 donation to the local scouts; that motion was seconded and carried.

Patrick also told the Rotarians about the next few weeks of programs. First up, next Thursday, the owner of Glitch Tech in Carmi will be on hand to talk about hacking and cyber security. The following week, a representative from the Ronald McDonald House in Evansville will speak to the club.

New member Patty Mills drew her own number from the bucket for the day’s cash prize, but her luck ran out when it came time to draw the pink ball. Cindy Conley was named the day’s phantom.

The Carmi Rotary club normally meets every Thursday at noon at the First United Methodist Church on Main Street in Carmi. Anyone wishing to learn more about this civic organization is welcome to attend a meeting or speak with any Carmi Rotarian.
