Trivia Night Success for Foundation

Trivia Night Huge Success For Foundation

The Quizzically Challenged and Retired Teachers were victors on the scorecard, but it was the students in the classrooms of two local teachers who were the real winners at the second annual Carmi-White County Schools Foundation Trivia Night, held Saturday, Apr. 6 at First Christian Church in Carmi.

The unique fundraiser invites teams of eight to compete in trivia, with the top two teams earning the right to designate which Carmi-White County teacher is awarded a $3,000 grant from the Foundation.

The Quizzically Challenged team took first place and selected Kim Owen of Carmi-White County Junior High School as its recipient. The Retired Teachers (an appropriately named collection of former educators in the Unit Five system) finished second and tabbed Rachel Attebury of Washington Attendance Center.

Owen will use the money to purchase Node chairs (which are designed for quick, easy transitions in the classroom to support learning modes throughout the classroom) for her classroom, while Attebury will purchase new student desks and chairs for her room.

The Quizzically Challenged team, which won by a comfortable margin, was composed of Barry Cleveland, David Hall, Don and Eric Dixon, Todd Rice, Bill Moore, Brad Lee and Brett Ward. Making up the second-place team of retired teachers were Nancy Kuhnert, Cathy Wilkey, Judith Williams, Dave Johnson, Tom Gholson, Mary Ann Bax, Barb Marx and Steve Bell.

Fourteen teams participated in the event. Foundation Board members Brooks York and Luke Sailer served as co-emcees.
