Corn Day Traffic
Corn Days 2018 is upon us again and with that comes some road closures and traffic detour patterns to allow for safe travels for through traffic and pedestrians.
Carmi Chief of Police Jason Carter released information about the detours, urging everyone to follow the signs and to obey those directing traffic.
Church Street between Main and Cherry Street will be blocked beginning around 4 p.m. Thursday to allow for carnival rides to be set up. Walnut Street, between Main and Cherry Street will also be partially blocked beginning Thursday night to allow for set-up of the Main Stage on Friday morning.
The set traffic detour pattern will be in place starting at 3 p.m. Friday. After 3, vendors will begin setting up on Main Street. Vendors are not allowed to set up prior to 3 p.m. due to state regulations and traffic hazards.
Any vehicles parked on Main Street between Main Cross and Jessup Streets after 3 Friday are subject to being towed at the owner’s expense. The routes will be visibly marked with no parking signs and detour route signs. The detour will be in place until about 2 Sunday morning.
Feel free to call the Carmi Police Department at 618-382-4633 with any questions regarding the routes.
The parade will begin at 4 Saturday afternoon. At that time, all traffic will be diverted from Main Street onto Fairgrounds Road and then onto Oak Street for the detour around Main until the parade is over.
Chief Carter also reminded everyone that alcohol is not allowed to be taken outside of the bar establishments unless there is a secured area that is not accessible to the general public. Further, NO alcohol is allowed in or adjacent to any street or alley or on or adjacent to the public sidewalks. This will be monitored and enforced with citations issued if necessary. Please be responsible and mindful of your actions.
We hope everyone is able to attend and has a safe and enjoyable 2018 Corn Day, said Carter.
